Trash and Recycling Collection Schedule:
Residents having home remodeling done should make sure the contractor provides a private trash container. The Public Works Department will not collect trash from private contractors doing home remodeling work.
Trash and recycling containers should not be placed at the curb-line earlier than 6:00 p.m. the evening before the scheduled trash collection day. All receptacles should be removed from the curb-line by 7:00 p.m. the day of collection.
Note the following:
- Latex paint cans with paint can be discarded with regular trash only if the lids are removed and the paint has been allowed to dry or has been mixed with sand/kitty litter or speedy dry to absorb any liquid paint. All oil base paint cans must be taken to the Gloucester County Improvement Authority during Hazardous Waste Collection days.
- Regular trash containers should not exceed 50 pounds in weight.
- Grass Clippings. Residents should recycle their grass clippings by using them around trees, plants and bushes for mulch or leave on lawn or can be disposed in regular trash.
- Roof shingles are not accepted by the landfill or incinerator. Resident/contractor must dispose of properly.
- Do not place motor oil in trash cans/bags. Motor oil is classified as a hazardous waste and must be separated and delivered to the Public Works Highway garage on Mondays only!
When a holiday falls on a regular trash and recycling collection day – that trash and recycling route will be collected the following day, except for Fridays and Thanksgiving Day which will be collected the day before the regular trash day. When a holiday falls on a Monday, there will be no collection of large articles, vegetative waste, etc. for that week. Collection will resume the following Monday.
PLEASE CONSERVE WATER
In the summer months when more water usage occurs, please water lawns on an odd/even basis. It is best to water very early in the morning or later in the evening. If your house number is odd, you may water on odd calendar days, even number houses water on even number days. Please continue to conserve. The Borough of Westville thanks you in advance for your cooperation.
Plowing will commence when three or more inches have fallen. Please park your vehicle in driveways when possible, or move vehicles when streets are being cleared.
RECYCLING: “It Pays to Recycle in Westville”
Recycling reduces the amount of trash taken to the incinerator or landfill and is mandated in the State. The Borough of Westville provides blue recycling containers so please place all of your recyclables, including newspaper, acceptable plastic containers, glass, aluminum and tin into your Blue recycling container.
TEXTILE RECYCLING PROGRAM
Residents can place gently used clothing and textiles, e.g. shoes, belts, purses, suit jackets, sheets, towels, blankets, tote bags, backpacks, beach bags, etc. into a plastic bag and place that bag into the large weatherproof carryall provided by the Borough. Public Works will deliver another carryall to every house that places one at the curb-line the second Monday of each month. If Monday is a Holiday, collection will be the next day (Tuesday).
From May to September Public Works will pick up vegetation every Monday. From October to April, Public Works will pick up the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month. Please tie up branches in 6 feet or shorter lengths and bag/can all other vegetation. Please DO NOT put loosely in the street.
Place grass clippings out with regular trash. Please DO NOT blow any grass clippings into any Borough street.
