Youth in Government Update

The Youth in Government (YIG) activities with Parkview sixth grade students and the Borough of Westville continues in the month of May!

Youth in Government is a national program that involves thousands of teens nationwide in state-organized model-government programs. Students from every corner of the U.S. have the opportunity to learn about government and are provided with the opportunity to practice democracy.

The Lions Club of Westville started participating in the YIG program in 1944 and since then, local support has grown to include Borough Council as well as the Police, Fire and Public Works Departments.

On May 8th, elected students visited Borough Hall to learn the different aspects of managing local government from collecting Taxes and Water and Sewer utility fees to how the Borough Administrator and his staff manage the day-to-day operations of municipal government. The Students also had the opportunity to tour the Police and Public Works Departments and later in the month the students will visit with Lions Club members.

It’s an exciting time for Borough officials and students and we look forward to working with the Youth of Westville to show them municipal government in action.
