Water Update

Westville Water Users,

Below is a link to the 5th letter written by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) regarding PFNA’s that were detected, over the limit, in July 2023 in Westville’s water. As a result of the detection, the Borough is mandated to send the standard NJDEP letter to all Borough water users every 90 days. (The letters were mailed from the Borough office on August 29, 2024 and are being delivered by the US Postal Service to all Westville water users.) Additionally, since the detection, the Water Department is pumping water from a well that has tested lower for PFNA’s and is below the State limit.  Our 3^rd quarter results for PFNA’s from this Well was 7 parts per trillion which is under the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP)  limit of 13.0 parts per trillion.

The Westville Water Department, in accordance with NJDEP regulations, reviews their water samples and provides notices of results and findings to our customers. As with many municipalities throughout the state, the Water Department is working with NJDEP to develop temporary and long-term infrastructure upgrades to filter PFNA’s to meet the new standards. The stricter standards in New Jersey is a positive step and we will continue to do the work in order to meet those new standards and keep water users informed. Please keep in mind that the water in town has not changed, but rather the testing standards have changed.

The Governing Body and the Public Works Superintendent continue their efforts to secure grants though the USDA to install the GAC filters that will remove PFNA’s from the water system, in fact, later today, a message from Mayor Sims will be posted detailing the progress that has been made to remedy our PFNA’s issues.
